Refreshing the Fine Arts Exhibition: last instalment
09.06.2020 - 31.12.2020
After
the two first sections inaugurated during the springs of 2018 and 2019 (from
modern landscape to new Realists), the launch of the entirely refreshed Fine Arts
wing will be complete in March 2020, with the final unveiling of the halls dedicated
to the period spanning the 14th through the 19th centuries. Designed as a
foretaste of the future halls of the MAH extension and restauration project, the
new space will feature an updated selection of pieces – about half of which newly
on display, while the other half will once again be visible after extensive conservation-restoration
work. The exhibition offers a journey
through time, from the Middle Ages until the 20th century. It was curated with
an approach that is both chronological and themed; not only offering a
narrative of art history through masterpieces, but also of the evolution of
taste and ideas, to highlight both the museum’s artistic and historic dimensions.
Following the principle established from the very start of the project, the
permanent halls will continue to include a number of spaces dedicated to themed
exhibitions featuring collection pieces, regularly updated to keep visitors
engaged with new discoveries.
